Terms

The terms we work on.

Most of this is stated so a reader knows exactly what they are buying and what they are not. Where an engagement agreement says something different, the agreement governs that engagement.

What Stetmark is, and is not

What it is

An independent verification and advisory service. We check written guidance against the code edition in force in a stated jurisdiction, and we report the difference in writing, cited.

What it is not

Not a regulatory body, not an inspector, not a certifier, and not a law firm. A Stetmark report is not an inspection result, a licence, a variance, or legal advice.

Official determinations come from the agency with jurisdiction over you. If your situation turns on a legal question — liability, an enforcement action, an insurance coverage dispute — take it to a lawyer.

The library and this site

You may read the library without an account and quote from it with attribution and a link to the record. Two things we ask you not to do: republish or resell the library at scale, and strip the citation from a correction you reuse. A finding without its edition and jurisdiction is exactly the kind of claim this site exists to catch.

Every record states the code edition and jurisdiction it was checked against. A model code is not law until a state or locality adopts it, and adoptions change. Confirm the edition in force where you operate before acting on anything here, including a record that looks recent.

Engagements

  1. Quoted, not assumedWork is quoted per engagement against a stated scope. If the business turns out to be larger than described, the scope is re-quoted before the work continues, not billed quietly afterwards.
  2. Your material stays yoursDocuments you send are used only for the engagement and read only by the reviewers assigned to it.
  3. Findings belong to youThe client who commissions a review owns the report. We do not publish a client’s failures, name a client in a correction, or use an engagement as the opening move of a sales pitch.
  4. The decision stays yoursWe report what the code requires and what your document actually says. Changing a practice, and how, is your call.

Payment

Card payments are taken by the payment provider on its own pages; card numbers never reach this site. Access to checkout is by a private link issued for an agreed engagement, so the site does not take payment from someone it has not agreed to work with. A monitoring plan cancelled runs to the end of the period already paid for and then stops; nothing is cut short mid-period, and the fee for a period already delivered is not refunded. Refunds on a one-time engagement are dealt with in the engagement agreement or by asking.

Reviewers and contributors

Anyone who submits findings or takes assignments agrees to the following:

Acceptable use

Send your own details, not someone else’s. Do not use the forms to submit findings you cannot stand behind, do not attempt to reach another person’s submissions or engagement, and do not overload the site. Accounts used this way are closed.

Availability and changes

The site is provided as it is, and we do not promise uninterrupted access. These terms may be updated; the version published on this page applies to use of the site on the day you use it. A material change to the terms of an engagement already underway is agreed with you in writing, not announced by an edit here.

Limits

To the extent the law allows, Stetmark is not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from use of this site or its content, and liability arising from an engagement is limited to the fee paid for that engagement. Neither limit applies where the law does not allow it to, and nothing here excludes liability for something we are not permitted to exclude.

Governing law

Governing law and venue for a paid engagement are set out in the engagement agreement. Ask us at hello@stetmark.ai and we will tell you before you sign anything.
